పౌల్లో కొయెల్లో రాసిన ఆల్కెమిస్ట్ నవలని చదవాలని చాలా కాలంగా అనుకొంటూ ఉన్నా ఈ మధ్యవరకూ కుదరలేదు. ఈ పుస్తకంగురించి చాలా విని ఉండడంవల్ల ఆసక్తి పెరిగింది. 1988లో పోర్చుగీస్‌లో రాసిన చిన్న పుస్తకం ఏకంగా 56 భాషల్లోకి అనువదింపబడి రికార్డ్ సృష్టించింది. ఈ కారణం వల్ల పౌల్లో కొయెల్లో పేరు గిన్నీస్ బుక్కులో కెక్కింది. ఇది ఎప్పటి మాటో. కానీ, ఇప్పుడు చెప్పడానికి కారణం నేను ఈ మధ్యనే దానిని చదివి ఉండడం. అసలు ఏం జరిగిందంటే, విజయవాడ బుక్‌ఫెస్టివల్ సొసైటీ వాళ్ళు ఈ మార్చిలో ఓ వారం రోజులపాటు కాకినాడలో మొట్టమొదటిసారిగా బుక్‌ఫెస్టివల్ నిర్వహించడంతో నేను రెక్కలు కట్టుకొని అక్కడ వాలిపోయాను. ఆల్కెమిస్ట్ దొరికింది.
ఇంతకీ అల్కెమిస్ట్ అంటే ఏమిటో చెప్పలేదు కదూ... సత్తులోహాలని కూడా బంగారంగా మార్చగలిగిని విద్య తెలిసున్నవాడు. పరుశవేది అంటారు. కథ చిన్నది. సాంటియాగో అనే గొర్రెలుకాసుకొనే కుర్రవాడు కలలో కనిపించిన నిధికోసం ఈజిప్ట్‌లో పిరమిడ్ల వరకూ ప్రయాణం చెయ్యడం. ఇలాంటి కథలు చిన్నప్పుడు చందమామలో బోలెడన్ని చదివాం. విఠలాచార్య సినిమాల్లోకూడా చూశాం. రాకుమారుడికి పేదరాసిపెద్దమ్మ దారిచెప్పడం, ఋషి ఆయుధాలు ఇవ్వడం, దారిలో కనిపించే రాకుమారితో ప్రేమ, ఎడారిదొంగలతో పోరాటాలు, ప్రకృతిశక్తుల్ని తర్కంతో మెప్పించి పని సాధించుకోవడం... ఇలాంటివన్నీ ఈ కథలో కూడా ఉన్నాయి.
విఠలాచార్యకి, పౌల్లో కొయెల్లోకీ తేడా ఏమిటంటే ఈ రచయిత వ్యక్తిత్వ వికాసాన్నీ, తాత్వికతనీ బాగా దట్టించాడు. కథనంలో వేగం జెట్‌స్పీడులా ఉంటుంది. ఇంగ్లీషులోనికి తర్జమా చెయ్యబడిన నవల చదువుతున్నా, అది ఇంగ్లీషుదో, 1990ల్లో యండమూరి రాసిన పాపులర్ తెలుగు నవలో తెలియనంతగా లీనమైపోతాం.
పేజీ, పేజీకీ ఉదహరించవలసిన ఆణిముత్యాల్లాంటి మాటలు ఉంటాయి.
`యువకులకి లక్ష్యం స్పష్టంగా ఉంటుంది. ఏదయినా సాధించగలం అనే నమ్మకం కూడా ఉంటుంది. కానీ, కాలం గడిచే కొద్దీ వాళ్ళని ఏదో మాయ కమ్మేస్తుంది. లక్ష్యాన్ని చేరుకోలేమని నిరాశ ఆవహిస్తుంది.`
`నేనూ అందరిలాంటి వాడినే. నాచూట్టూ ఏమిజరగాలని కోరుకొంటానో దానినే దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకొని (సంఘటనలనీ, మనుష్యులనీ) చూస్తానుకానీ, నిజంగా ఏమిజరుగుతుందో దానిని చూడలేను.`
`అదృష్టం మనవైపు ఉన్నప్పుడు, దానికి మనవంతు సహకారం పూర్తిగా అందించాలి. దానినే ప్రిన్సిపల్ ఆఫ్ ఫేవరబిలిటీ లేదా బిగినర్స్ లక్ అంటారు.`
`నేను దేనినీ మార్చాలనుకోవడంలేదు. ఎందుకంటే మార్పుని ఎలా ఎదుర్కోవాలో నాకు తెలియదు. నేను ఎప్పుడూ ఉండేలా ఉండడానికే అలవాటు పడిపోయాను.`
`నిర్లక్ష్యం చేయబడిన ప్రతీ దీవెనా శాపంగా మారుతుంది.`
`నువ్వు ఒకటి కావాలని మనస్పూర్తిగా కోరుకొంటే ప్రపంచం మొత్తం దాన్ని నీకు అందించడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తుంది(కాన్స్పైర్స్).` - ఇక్కడ కాన్స్‌పైర్ అంటే కుట్ర చెయ్యడం. కానీ ఒక పోజిటివ్ అర్థం వచ్చేలా ఉపయోగించడంతో వాక్యానికే గొప్ప అందం వచ్చింది.
తెలుగులోకి అనువాదం చేశానుకనుక పైవాక్యాలు అలా ఉన్నాయికానీ, ఇంగ్లీష్‌లో చాలా బాగున్నాయి.
రెండవ భాగంలోనికి వచ్చేసరికి కొంచెం అయోమయం మొదలౌతుంది. విశ్వాత్మ, ప్రపంచపు భాష (మనుష్యులది కాదు), శుభశకునాలని గుర్తించి అనుసరించడం.. లాంటి ఆధ్యాత్మిక విషయాలని రాస్తాడు రచయిత. కానీ, అవి ఏమిటో వివరణ ఉండదు. కథానాయకుడు సామాన్యుడే కానీ అతనికి పరిస్థితులన్నీ అనుకూలిస్తాయి. ప్రత్యేకమైన శిక్షణ లేకుండానే, తనకి కూడా తెలియకుండానే గాలితో, సూర్యుడితో, విశ్వాత్మతో మాట్లాడ గలుగుతాడు. అలా చెయ్యడానికి అతనికి ఉన్న అర్హతలేమిటో తెలియదు.
చివరికి పరుశవేదిని తెలుసుకొంటాడు, నిధిని సొంతంచేసుకొంటాడు, మనసుదోచుకొన్న ఫాతిమాని కలుసుకోవడానికి బయలుదేరతాడు.
అనుకొన్న లక్ష్యాన్ని చేరుకోవడానికి పట్టుదలగా ప్రయత్నించడం, అననుకూలమైన పరిస్థితులు ఎదురైనప్పుడు సరైన నిర్ణయాలు తీసుకోవడం, అదృష్టం కలిసి వచ్చినప్పుడు దానికి మనకు సాధ్యమైనంత సహకారం అందించడం.. లాంటి విషయాలని చక్కగా చెప్పాడు రచయిత.
అనుకొన్నంత గొప్ప నవల ఏమీకాదు కానీ, చెడ్డ పుస్తకం కూడా కాదు. అన్ని భాషల్లోని అనువదించబడడం, మిలియన్ల కొద్దీ కాపీలు అమ్ముడుపోవడం మొదలైనవాటికి రచయితయొక్క బిగినర్స్ లక్ కూడా కొంత కారణం అయివుండవచ్చు.

ReplyDeleteI 2 read this book and feels it is incomplete. Reason may be author did not a proper guru like Swami Rama or yogananda whose books goes on similar Lines but explain clearly what is mans purpose and goal with more simple live examples and humor.
I read many books but Living with Himalayan Masters by Sri Swami Rama, Sri Guru Ramana of Aurunachla had so much affect on me and changed my personality and thinking very much.
Thanks to you for posting so many good articles which remember my child hood memories with West Godavari and East Godavari districts.

1) Your blog always carries good information with clarity and nice articles. a common man like me appreciate or don’t like your good work it does not matter much. Please write more articles.
2) By profession I am software Engineer, visited many countries and come across many people.
3) Following points were my personnel Experiences with books and people, I am not generalizing they should applicable to every one (that is simply foolishness)
4) undergone many setbacks and depression periods in my personnel life , read many books on personnel development , positive thinking and felt sincerely they are not greater than Bhagawad Gita, they are all derived from it
5) Thanks to those all book writers who take so much pain to write good books on this issues which can change a persons way of thinking and life if some one implement the things sincerely

6) In this process I come across many spiritual books written by enlightened masters or their disciples , these books also goes on similar lines of books of personality development books but difference is they show how to Fight with our Inner enemies like Raga,Dwesha, kama , Krodha which makes us unrest for every single event in our daily life.

8) After having so much personnel experiences with Kundalini Yoga and meditation , I realized these words of Ancient Saints of India were true and they don’t know how to Lie Like many normal people who always proud of their wealth, knowledge or position and who most of time try to insult other with their words and actions to show their Greatness.
9) I come across great people like Doctor Chandra Sekar of surya Kiran Trust near Kakinada and many more Unsung Heros in India who is doing so much service to poor, needy and disabled without much publicity. I found all these people are implementing things which I read in many books sincerely.

3) auto biography of Yogi : Sri Yogananda
11) If you are not interested to read, have a cup of coffee and do things which you like( I need not to write this).

Srinivas garu, I attempted to read Autobiography of a Yogi but could not finish off even a couple of chapters. I think I should take it up once again and other ones too that you have recommended. Thanks to have taken time to write many useful things.
